You will find small, reproducible studies rather than promises of instant mastery. A successful exercise should leave you with a clearer decision-making method, even when your finished composition looks nothing like the example.
How the lessons are framed
We begin with an intention, choose sources that support it, and keep the work reversible. Each guide includes a way to test the result: grayscale comparison, background switching, delivery-size inspection or a version with one element removed.
Software names describe possible workflows, not endorsements. Features change between versions. We distinguish broad compositional principles from application-specific commands and encourage readers to consult current documentation.
Learn from a wider conversation
Collage has many histories and purposes. Hannah Höch's photomontage, Kurt Schwitters's assembled materials, Romare Bearden's layered narratives and László Moholy-Nagy's photographic experiments offer different ways to think about fragments.
